![]() ![]() While the game sounds like a perfect Dark Souls alternative, it does falter when it comes to content. If you find the game to be too difficult, you can even play cooperatively with your friend via the upgraded multiplayer system. Timing is everything in this game and if you do not have good eyes-to-hand coordination, you will find it hard to progress. You will have to learn all of the mechanics and have good coordination to defeat these enemies. You will always face challenges from low-level enemies and will always be under threat. Speaking of difficulty, the game is easier than Dark Souls or Bloodborne but it still is an extremely hard game. We advise you to use these burst counters against the many boss characters you will come across who are extremely hard to defeat due to their complex weaknesses and different attack and defence styles. This stamina counter is also used for defending yourself with burst counters and it is the only way to defend yourself from powerful attacks. It uses up a lot of anima (stamina) and leaves you vulnerable for a few seconds to recover all of the energy. Having said that, being powerful doesn't mean yokai magic is not vulnerable. It's better known as 'yokai magic' in the game and is very effective to use in combat. These can range from elemental weapon attacks or give you the ability to transform into a monster. Progress is important in this game if you want to learn new abilities as collectables from defeated enemies. The different stances give more flexibility to defeat your enemy and have to be used more strategically. You can use a more defensive stance when facing a difficult enemy while you can change it up to a different stance for example 'speed' to attack your enemy more effectively. You can even choose different stances for your character, depending on what you want to do in the battleground. There's now a stamina meter that depletes depending on the type of your attack. The combat system has now become more complex as you can use combos beside the light and heavy attacks. While the fantasy-inspired 1500s Japan does sound fascinating, the core of the game happens to be the combat system. ![]() The game does a fantastic job of retelling the supernatural origins of your character and even dabbles a bit with alternate history when it comes to famous Japanese figures. However, Nioh 2 is more of a prequel to the original game rather than being a direct sequel. Nioh 2 is set in the 1500s' feudal Japan that has a nice touch of fantasy which you will not find in Sekiro or other games with similar gameplay mechanics. ![]() One can easily compare it to Sekiro: Shadows Twice but it is vastly different with more fantasy references and complicated role-playing game mechanics. While the game did not have a very loud launch, it is one of the best exclusives for the PS4 to launch this year. The game even launched at a perfect time as most of the world is under quarantine and gamers are hungry for new content. The first Nioh was a great alternative to Dark Souls but now we've got a sequel to the game that adds a bit more to the original game. Dark Souls has been the benchmark when it comes to challenging games that can test your limits to defeat your enemy. ![]()
